14...I understand the other complaints, but whorish? Why is that women get classified as "whorish" for simply having/wanting a sex life? Am I missing something here?

[identity profile] jdillon.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
I try not to have a double-standard, and 'whore' is a word I avoid using, but she did annoy the hell out of me with the whole thing with Chase last season. She kept pushing things in ways he wasn't entirely comfortable with (sex in that sick woman's house? or in the other room while a patient was being tested? wtf?), and when he made it clear that he really wanted a relationship with her, she made it equally clear she only wanted sex and didn't want anything to do with him if he wanted something more. I know they did end up together, but still. It would have pissed me off if a male character had acted that way, as well. There was also that whole "I'll come back to work if you go out with me" situation with House in Season 1. Ugh.

It's not the "wanting a sex life;" it's the being selfish/self-serving, uncaring and unprofessional about it that bothers me.

And House himself is what now? Just asking for his female boss's UNDERWEAR because it goes well with his drapes?

Look, there are plenty of reasons to dislike Cameron, just as there are plenty to dislike everyone on the cast, both past and present. However, stating her sex life as one of those reasons when the beloved protagonist goes out of his way to hit on PATIENTS ain't one of 'em.

[identity profile] jdillon.livejournal.com 2007-11-25 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, it's made abundtly clear that House is sexist and more-often-than-not very inappropriate. That doesn't mean I can't be irked by other characters' behavior or conduct.

I don't care about her sex life one way or the other. Really, I don't. But when she starts neglecting patients, or jerking people around, it does kind of bother me regardless of how the rest of the cast behaves.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
It makes you hypocritical as fuck, so I automatically can't take your opinions seriously.

[identity profile] jdillon.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 12:11 am (UTC)(link)
Did I say I approved at all of House's behavior?

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
No, but you are excusing it with the rationale of, "Even though I may not like it, the show lays it out for you so that's okay," when really, I don't see how this DOESN'T apply to Cameron in every way.

Now, if the writers wrote in her behavior and presented it in an isn't she just grand you should all love and adore her manner, it would bug me too. Fact is, it didn't. Deal.

[identity profile] jdillon.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 12:27 am (UTC)(link)

I'm not excusing anyone. The secret was about Cameron; I didn't realize I had to lay out problems I have with the entire cast in order to make any comment.

No, her behavior overall isn't nearly as bad as other characters. She still annoys me. It's not a big deal, she just annoys me.

Again, I can't speak for the OP or others.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oh good lord I am sorry, I thought you WERE the OP. My bad, seriously. In that case, I don't have anything against you except that I think your definition of whorish is a bit 1950's.

[identity profile] agawa-jean.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yes, honestly all of the original ducklings peeved me at one time or another, and Cameron certainly had her annoying periods. I was merely disagreeing with the assertation that she was whorish simply due to having a sex life.

As for the Chase and Cameron thing? She told him from the beginning that they were just fooling around and that if he got attached; she'd break it off. That was honest. She wasn't obligated to have a relationship with him just because he wanted to and he wasn't obligated to have sex with her.

[identity profile] loveotter.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 12:06 am (UTC)(link)
and when he made it clear that he really wanted a relationship with her, she made it equally clear she only wanted sex and didn't want anything to do with him if he wanted something more.

Huh? So she's obligated to have a "real" relationship with him, and if she doesn't want that, then she's a whore? Are you kidding me? Did she ever tell him she no longer wanted to be friends or coworkers because he had a crush on her? Did she not end it right there, knowing that she couldn't keep having sex with him if he had developed feelings for her?

I'm glad that she and Chase are in a relationship now because it's adorable, but she had absolutely no obligation to have anything more with him than a sexual relationship if she didn't want it, nor did she obligate him to continue having just a sexual relationship with her.

[identity profile] jdillon.livejournal.com 2007-11-26 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
I didn't say I thought it made her a whore (I don't like that word and I avoid using it), I said that it bothered me. Personally, I find her self-righteousness more annoying than anything else. I can't speak for the OP or for others.
