Yes, I've given it a shot. Yes, that includes an episode or two everyone holds up as the best ones. Nope, still don't like it.

Heh. I'll admit, it may take a different mindset to get the Buffy love. It took me quite a few tries (being nudged, shoved, and force-fed) before it 'took'. Then I was back watching all the previous seasons on DVD. It's weird, because I've talked to other big fans that had the same problem getting into it at first.

(If I remember right, I think it was the Thanksgiving episode that finally brought me over to the dark side.)

Part of it is being able to overlook the campiness of the monsters - there's just no way to make them realistic within a limited budget. But when I finally grasped onto the underlying metaphor of "highschool = hell", and stuck around for the season-long story arcs, there was just so much fun to delve into.

On the other side of the coin, I just started watching the X-Files and I'm enjoying the one-shots waay more than the mythology arc. But for Buffy?... it's all about the arcs, ba-by! (And the in-jokes that carry forward are just a hoot.)

I can not lie. I get a kick out of a series that can take the nerdy kid and make it absolutely IC for him to be 'cool stud' for an episode. Too much fan-fictiony fun. :P
