As opposed to "Shrek's an ogre so he has to nail an ogre chick even though he fell in love with the redhead and she with him"? Why did Fiona have to change her looks, if she loved him just as well as a human? If he would love her either way, what did her change even signify? I mean, it's all up to interpretations, and I personally like the Shrek franchise, but that's one way of looking at it that won't satisfy people.

That's implying that Shrek felt Fiona was ugly in ogre form. Which he didn't.

You can't take the ending at face value. The point of the change was to show that beauty isn't skin deep.

Which I feel it didn't, because before Fiona could end up with him she had to become something considered traditionally unattractive as well.

No. That's implying that no one who knows Shrek would think he would find Fiona ugly in any form. The film implied that Fiona might think Shrek would find her ugly as an ogre -- when she should have known he wouldn't.

I'm not sure what you're trying to say now, since it's already been established that everyone knows the point of the entire film is to celebrate inner beauty -- we're talking now about whether or not it was able to do that successfully. I still maintain that having Shrek change his attitude and Fiona change her looks is an odd way of going about that, if looks weren't supposed to matter to begin with.
