also the series is pretty clearly going to end with the ice chappies and the fire god thingy being equally evil forces and cancelling each other and old magic, old gods, and dragons being the force that is able to shift them out of the way, so in that sense, yeah, keeping the Old Gods in the picture is important

Oh, the ice vs fire thing hadn't registered (I've never read the books). Nifty.

Eh, I don't mind it. But I don't like that they keep showing it over the Eyrie now that Sansa's there and the Hound keeps saying that's where he's taking Arya and now apparently Brienne's headed off there too.

Spoiler: None of those other characters ever make it to the Eyrie

As a book reader, I personally find that debatable. (Although it'd be slightly more probable for Brienne to eventually get there vs Sandor.)

And the point remains that it's been brought up in at least three different storylines as a location/destination. For a show watcher who doesn't have impeccable memory of the first season, a place on the map might be nice.

People have debates about the opening credits and why different symbols are in it? Damn. I mean, I like the show myself, read the books years ago and all, but... the credits? I mean, they're well done, sure, but there is such a thing as taking something too seriously. Just relax and enjoy.

I do remember one reddit thread about this not long ago. To which a bunch of people answered: well, of course it matters, to the children who were raised there in-universe, and to viewers. OP sounds like they're overreacting.

To be fair, the guys who do the opening credits work REALLY HARD to work a lot of symbolism into them. The entire story of Robert's Rebellion being told in the engraved rings, for example. So digging out the stuff that they've carefully encoded there is engaging on a level that they WANT to be engaged.

Really? Do you have any links that explain the symbolism and what the thing in the opening credits is?

The wiki kindly rounded up an explanation!

I like it still being there, smoking away. The North remembers and all that. Plus the tree is very pretty.
