When is someone not crying during sex, though?

I can handle a few judicious tears! I've even read a DJ or two where crying-during-sex was turned into an angsty plot point(!). It's that Flushed, Sobbing Uke Face I can't stand. You know the one.

I'm not Japanese but as an East Asian woman I have a theory! (Disclaimer: I am neither a psychologist nor a sociologist.) We're traditionally indoctrinated to believe that sex is dirty and impure and it would be shameful to embrace our sexuality. So if a woman (or a feminized man, as all uke happen to be) is shown enjoying sex, s/he must also display a token amount of resistance at the same time.

...or maybe it's a kink for these artists, I dunno. That Face just makes me think, "Ugh, that looks painful, are you sure you don't need a doctor?"

It gets pretty obvious at a point where in simply all Japanese porn no matter how enthusiastic and obviously wanted the sex is, the person on the bottom just has to "no!" at a point. It may not even be obvious why, they seem to do it because it feels too good.

Also there's a certain set of words that pop up a lot, along the lines of "just do what you want." I get the feeling there's a certain detachment to sexuality that permeates the sexual culture in Japan? For the same reason rape fantasies are common among women in sexually shaming environments, they view sexuality as a separate part of themselves, so surrendering control to another person is the only way to enjoy sex.

I have, to date, encountered ONE doujin where the uke was enthusiastically into it, didn't ask to stop even once, didn't cry, and sort of topped from the bottom.
