Yes: and why is it we cannot have nice things?
(Anonymous) 2014-05-27 12:43 am (UTC)(link)Actually, I have seen also lots of writers who hate positive comments which detail one part of their story which is not THEIR own favorite part.
It's a cycle: you see it in every fandom: diva authors and unfortunately it's not always easy to tell in advance which is which until you get a truly nasty reply to one of your positive comments...
Which is why I only leave anon kudos, never comments. Ever: it was a long an painful lesson, but I have learned it over years of reading fanfic. Am I saying such writers should be stomped on hard? No: it's their work, they are allowed to have their own opinion, but in self-defense I have learned to never comment.
PS; And oh yes, said writers who run it for everyone else? Are quite often the same ones who are the most vocal in begging for comments and feedback.

And if you've been burned over and over, I can see making a call not to comment anymore. But as a general philosophy, I don't think that's why so many people kudos more often than commenting.
