And this is why kudos carry very little weight for me. You mean it as a strong compliment, but another kudos-er will mean it as something completely different.

Short comments may not say much, but at least you get a flavor for what was intended.

Eh, not necessarily. One person's "I loved this!" could mean "This was the best fic I've read all year," while another's "I loved this!" could mean "This was a reasonably fun fic, but I don't want to make the author feel bad, so I'll be more enthusiastic than I think the story really merits."

I hadn't thought of this, but you make a good point. It's one reason why I try to avoid uding the word "love" when leaving comments. I try to be more specific (even though my efforts usually result in using the word "enjoy" a lot).
