That's weird, cause fandom is petty much the only thing I use tumblr for.

Same here, I can't imagine what else the appeal would be. I'm way too old for that many posts about being a trans and emo, but you don't age out of wanting to look at pictures of pretty people.

I use it for both, but the fandom side tends to be exhausting/drama-filed for me even though I'm just on the sidelines. I've finally just settled on single interest fandom blogs and avoid personal blogs.

Lots of people use tumblr for non-fandom things, but considering that fandom is one of the biggest if not the biggest bloc of tumblr users, your reaction is kind of odd.

I never would have signed up in the first place if it wasn't for fandom. Actually, I'm not even sure I realized tumblr existed before finding out about it through fandom spaces. But of course if you feel no need to follow fandom blogs or to use it for that reason, that's perfectly fine. (It actually amuses me to see fandom related stuff trending, but maybe that's just me.)

That's funny, because I know that for some people, tumblr is their go-to for fandom stuff over any other website nowadays, aside from maybe fic. But even then, people write drabbles and chapters on their blogs.

Yeah, I think tumblr is starting to get more fanfiction now actually...which really sucks since it can be pretty hard to find it specifically - and you can't really keep track/find something you once read with how often people will change their names [which invalidates links.]

I'm just impressed that you've managed to avoid fandom on tumblr so far. Fandom is what tumblr's best at. Apart from all the pretty pictures on artblogs, I don't use it for anything else.

Maybe 5 years ago I would feel that way, too, but fandom isn't as 'underground' as it used to be. Pretty much anyone who's been on the internet for any time at all knows about it, even if they don't exactly know what it's called. Even my parents know what conventions and cosplay are without me having told them and they can barely work a Google search.

tumblr is evenly fandom/"hipster" non fandom stuff, but i have this same feeling for other places online and in real life, so i get you
