Window of attractiveness

(Anonymous) 2014-05-26 11:18 pm (UTC)(link)
I was doing some spring cleaning on my computer the other day and came across a post I started a few years ago and then abandoned: The idea was to do a picspam of your 100 Lovelies -- 100 men and 100 women in the public eye who are just lovely to you, whether in looks or personality or a little bit of both. Looking back through it now, I've realized that there are some people who I will always always always adore, but their window of physical attractiveness was fleeting.

Here are a few, during their peak periods for me:
Michael Shanks -- Stargate SG-1, seasons 3-5
Richard Dean Anderson -- Stargate SG-1, seasons 3-7
Nathan Fillion -- Firefly/Serenity
Seamus Dever -- Castle, seasons 2-4
Robin Williams -- Crazy Ones-era only

Surprisingly, my list of lovely ladies' windows are still wide open.

Does anyone have anybody to add to the list? Or want to come at me for calling your bb not so pretty anymore?

I find this depressing.

Why? Looks fade, but people stay awesome is what OP seems to be saying here.

I just turned 30, so I'm not feeling hot on the "looks fade" sentiment right now.

DA

Interesting what OP picked for Robin Williams, though.

As do I.

Then I'm not alone.

Nick Carter and Leo DiCaprio both spring to mind. Orlando Bloom as well--I think he looks good for his age, but watching him in The Hobbit... I was far more in love with Tauriel than him. My 13 year old self would have been very disappointed in me lol.

I'm generally not attracted to older men, though. There are a select few who can make it past a certain age and still seem attractive to me. I like the "pretty" ones, and those tend to appear less and less when you climb the age ladder.

That's purely physical stuff though. If I love someone's personality then I generally don't care if they're physically attractive or not.

I used to feel the same way about Leo, but then I realized it's only when he slicks his hair back, grows bad facial hair and is too tanned that his pretty-meter fails. Change those very changeable things, and he's still a looker.

I actually find Leo more attractive in recent years than ever (super young Leo doesn't do too much for me), but then again I'm the opposite: I think most people look better as they age.

Robert Downey Jr for example.

Also, I love that my phone's first suggestion after Robert is Downey and it's first suggestion after Downey is Jr. Saved a lot of typing that one did.

lol, my phone does that too! And I agree completely, having seen pictures of young!RDJ...some people do get better with age. I don't even find young him attractive (not unattractive either, mind), but now...he's delicious now.

Considering he spent most of his younger years messed up on drugs, the unattractiveness of younger him doesn't surprise me

Huh. I do not agree about Shanks. Although, it's always been his smile that does it most for me, and that hasn't changed.

He started to lose me when he got super beefy in the later SG-1 seasons. I'll still watch all his stuff and would never turn him down, but my days of mooning are done.

Oh, so you've watched Saving Hope? I didn't think anyone else here had.

I watched it right up until NBC pulled it. It kind of fell of my radar after that, but I should get back on it, if I can.

Brendan Fraser was hella attractive in The Mummy movies and George of the Jungle.

Recently? Not as much IMO.

OT: There's a guy in my class who looks like a young Brendan Fraser and dresses like he's in a 90's boy band. It's *awesome*.

Shanks is still attractive IMHO, but Richard Dean Anderson. Oh, Richard Dean Anderson...

I will say he looks better in person than he does in some of his recent photos. Not astronomically, but still better.

Elizabeth Taylor. There was that brief, magical window after she grew into her beauty and her talent, and before the drugs kicked in and she turned awful.

Hmm, I don't think there's an exact window for me. More like I can hate a new hair, then the character looses their attractiveness. Jerisho from NCIS which I don't watch has a terrible hair, the one with two symmetrical sides in some eps.
