Me too! I was so happy whenever Cruise was in scene. I felt like he was the only part that was cast right. Or at least, he looked and acted like how I had him in my head from reading the books. Everyone else? Not so much. Especially Armand. What the hell were they thinking there? Let's take a red headed, Slavic teenage vampire and turn him into a thirty something, raven haired Spaniard. No one is going to notice the difference.

Oh god, Armand was TERRIBLE! Could be worse though....Queen of the Damned worse.

Oh, God squared. Another "What were they thinking?" Let's hire an American pop/hip hop singer with no experience at acting save for one cheesy B grade action film to play a millennia old Egyptian royal. What could go wrong?

She could die while still filming the movie.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-27 03:18 am (UTC)(link)
Eh. Her role was to look awesome in Hollywood Egyptian dress with barely any lines. I think Aaliyah handled it fine.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-27 02:03 am (UTC)(link)
But I loved Aaliyah! She was gorgeous in that film...and she did do Romeo Must Die before that.. I think.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-27 10:33 am (UTC)(link)
I really think she was the only moderately good thing about that movie. Well, and Paul McGann, but that really wasn't enough to save the movie.

I haven't read the book.

Armand isn't actually an Antonio Banderas? omg mind blown

No, Armand was a Raphael art inspiring youth.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-27 08:23 pm (UTC)(link)
The little boy that Armand drags into for Louis to drink from looks more like Armand is supposed to than the one in the movie.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-26 11:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Armand really did confuse me. My memories of book!Armand were more of a vampiric Enjolras/Gavroche mix, an messianic child soldier, and then Antonio Banderas comes onscreen as a Spanish Dracula luring an innocent Jonathan into his parlour. So. Okay then.

But, you know. Alluring Spanish Dracula isn't necessarily a bad thing to find yourself watching, even if he's jarringly out of place, so I went with it. To be fair I was also somewhat distracted by Stephen Rea as a really, really creepy Santiago.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-27 08:25 pm (UTC)(link)
Right?! Rea is so scary in that movie. And calling Armand Spanish Dracula is spot on.

Honestly, I thought Kirsten Dunst did a great job as Claudia.

I think she might have been my fav part of the movie.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-27 01:44 am (UTC)(link)
I know she was mine.
