xmen: dofp

okay I know there are a lot of issues with continuity and whatnot in the film but for some reason this quibble is driving me nuts.

**tiny spoilers for a minor part of the movie**

When Quicksilver is running to the song "Time in a Bottle"... what the hell is he using to play the music?? Were there portable music players that he could have had? I asked my mom and she couldn't remember anything that would have been small enough.

I keep hearing that he was running 'to it'. If he was going super fast, was the song playing super slow? Did only a few notes play?

Maybe in their universe the Walkman was released 6 years earlier or something.

Nope. But chalk it up to Singer. Actual factual settings have never stopped him from telling the story he wanted. Like in First Class, the movie was set in 1962. Mini skirts and go-go boots did not come into fashion for many years later. The fashion for that time was first season Mad Men style. But, dammit, he wanted women in mini skirts and go-go boots. So, he did.

Pretty sure Singer didn't do First Class.

He was a writer (He co-wrote it with the direct Vaugh) and the producer and helped make director choices such as fashion.

He somehow managed to create a hyper fast pong game, and there are plastic guns with working bullets in the story somehow. I think it's safe to say that techology is slightly different from what it is in our universe, and if he could speed up pong, maybe he could find a way to speed up whatever music thing it is? Though that would probably make it high pitched...

Or maybe it's to protect his ears and the music was in his head. Sound probably does weird things at those speeds.

Also the Sentinels. In a decade where computers filled whole buildings with storage that today fits on tiny microSDs, there really shouldn't be seamlessly shiny robots like that. So yeah, I really don't think taking the historically accuracy too seriously is a good idea. Just... don't think about it too hard.

There were quite a few historical anachronisms and inaccuracies in the movie. I don't care. I loved it. My dad, the history teacher, on the other hand couldn't get past them to enjoy it.

Bah, same. My mind just goes: there's mutants and sentinels in this universe - I'm sure there's different tech as well.

ayrt
oddly, I am also a history teacher and the other inaccuracies just didn't bug me like the headphones

I think because we have reasons that the other problems were solved. They built plastic guns because Magneto. They built robots because Trask had a boner for solving problems with giant robots.

But what the hell in-universe reason do they have for Quicksilver having acquired an invisible iPod Femto and headphones that don't look like these? http://www.soundandvision.com/content/review-dusting-some-vintage-headphones

Reading the comments makes me think I'm the only one who thought that was just on the soundtrack and he wasn't actually listening to anything. He had on goggles and I think just ear protectors.

huh, I definitely thought/assumed it was diagetic.

No, I thought the same thing. Did he actually have anything on his ears? I can't remember.

he very pointedly puts what looks like earphones over his ears

They look exactly like a pair of headphones I used to own circa 2005, so my mind went there immediately.

Is it bad I didn't notice or even think about whether the music was diegetic or non-diegetic?
