Re: How do old books hold up?

I've re-read The Baby-sitter's Club books... oh dear lord, the unintentional racism and ableism as an attempt to make kids less racist and ableist. It's frightening. And then there's Ann M. Martin's non-American characters....

Also, I re-read Harry Potter, though I usually do, and while I still love the books I sort of realize things I never realized before - really little things, nothing major, but for example her transitions can be horribly lazy. And everyone... talks... like... this.... sigh.

I haven't actually reread them, but I've been going through a blog that's been rereading it, and it's interesting to see what other people think, especially since I didn't actually get to read all of them.

I haven't reread Harry Potter, and I'm a little afraid to. |D Though, it will have a better Ron Weasley in it than the movies, so... Hm...

Aww, no, do re-read the Harry Potter books! They're actually a lot of fun to re-read, or at least I had fun doing so. There's things that resonate with you on an adult level, and when the characters are preteens they actually have adorable moments. I mean, there's definitely flaws too, as well as things that are a bit more annoying when you're an adult. But I really enjoyed re-reading them nonetheless.

Alright, I'll take your word for it. :3 I'm already not looking forward to the wand-in-the-troll's-nose scene. |D

(Literally that's what stopped me from reading it the first time I tried to read the books as a kid, that scene grossed me out so much. |D)

Maybe start at the second or third one? The third one's definitely more mature.

Nah, I'll be fine, I was mostly joking, sorry, I forgot tone on the internet doesn't work that well. |D Plus I'll get to see little baby students before all the bad shit happens- I can't miss that! :P

Ahh, yeah, humor on the internet. :D

Yes, innocent trio are so, well, innocent. Even Harry, who has been through hell, still has a bit of innocence considering the circumstances.

Someday there will be a code on the internet that let's hover over what you're saying, and the hover text will say what mood you're supposed to be reading the text in. (I mean, it exists on tumblr, but not on DW. :I)

Yes! They're just so precious~ <3

You can do that on Tumblr?

I only know how to do it on Dreamwidth/Livejournal.

Yeah! And you technically *can* in journal entries, but if I remember correctly, you can't do it in comments on DW/LJ.

It works in comments, too. Try mousing over the second line in my last post.

Huh, that's weird, last time I tried it on dw, it didn't work. Maybe I was doing something else?

Probably Tor, they are doing a Harry Potter reread, just finished book one. There is also "Mark Reads".
