That's a very reasonable thing to do. I applaud your efforts to be original! :)

Is it possible to search for fanfic on DW? That's what this secret makes me want to know.

I sometimes search for LJ fic using google (by fandom, pairing etc) so I suppose the same thing would work for DW.

There's no real way to search for fic on LJ or DW, since that's not what either site was designed for. I mean, you could search for communities by interest to find comms for your fandoms and look through the posts in those comms to see if the fic exists there, or you could use the site search but it doesn't bring up everything, or you could use a search engine but those would block posts that have the robots.txt block enabled, so yeah. Probably best to stick to FFN and AO3.

I'm interested in your plot synopsis, at least, because Avatar is one of those series where you have to do a LOT of work to make a crossover go smoothly. And yeah, I'm also guilty of the "maybe someone else has written it so I don't have to" thing.

Why do you think Avatar is a hard one to crossover?

[identity profile] flipthefrog.livejournal.com 2014-05-28 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
A lot of this is going to boil down to My Stupid Opinions About Crossovers, but essentially Avatar's world is too unique to play well with other fandoms. Either you're going to have to somehow set the other fandom in the Avatar world, which takes some thinking about how the plotlines/characterization would have worked out with the addition of elemental powers, or you're going to have to port the Avatar characters into the other world (with probable corresponding lack of elemental powers) and figure out how that would have changed things. It's a lot more work than just going "okay, so the Doctor showed up on the USS Enterprise, now what?"

This is largely based on a lj post that I stumbled on years back and unfortunately can't remember where anymore, but if I find it I'll let you know.

I don't check like this and sometimes I stumble on the same crossover or fusion as in my fic and am really surprised because it's so unlikely. I think that unigue combinations of fandoms mean less people would read a fic, so it's not something I aim for specificaly.

Laaaady.

I have nothing valuable to add. Good luck with your crossover!
