Re: Hypothetical #YesAllWomen Tweets from your fandom (TW: discussion of misogyny and sexual assault

I believe the quote is: "Not all men harass women. But all women have, at some point, been harassed by men."

Which the reply, yes, ALL women, is where the hashtag came from I believe.

That isn't technically true, though, is it?

I think she meant that it's not technically true that all women have been harassed.

I did, yeah.

YesAllWomen makes a bigger impact than YesTheMajorityOfWomenWithSomeExceptions

It doesn't make as much of an impact with me since I know it's not factually true.

But it turns out that's not the origin of the hashtag anyway, so it's a moot point.

All women have the potential to be harassed.

Technically, so do all men.

I get what you're saying though.

I know you're trying to be sciency about this, but it's just coming off as you making a case for men who are against the tag. Trust me hun, they're doing pretty well for themselves, society wise. Honestly, it'd be like defending a tag that says, "NotAllWhitePeople"

Ok, I was going to be really nice in my response to this, but then you called me "hun". No. I do not play that game, anon.

I don't appreciate your insinuation that I would EVER make a case for men who want an excuse to marginalize feminism.

Edit: I was mean so I changed it. I don't mean to be hostile, but I'm really rather put off. I don't like being talked to like that.

Yeah, complaining of being harassed by men all the time and then belittling other women who don't have the exact same opinion as you; A+ feminism there.

Maybe not every woman has been harassed, but I'd be willing to bet all women will be harassed in their lifetimes. I'm glad some people never have been, but I don't expect them to be that lucky in all social interactions in the future.

...not that I know how the hashtag was intended, or that I use it. I'm just saying that there will always be the occasional person who says they don't fit the "all" claim, and they're not statistically significant when talking about majority problems.

Yeah, but majority = all.

Sorry, I'm a science head and claims that are factually incorrect just diminish in legitimacy to me...

Do you know a woman who has never been harassed? I don't.

I guess it depends on how you define "harassed". But I concede the point; the issue is big enough that it's not worth arguing over when we need unity anyway. (and I'm not that invested in the semantics.)

Depends on what you count as "harassment", really.
