I like it - but, it feels more back to the roots of old-time educational TV to me, and I think audiences (or parts of them) are no longer used to that style, as even documentaries and non-fiction have gotten more "dynamic".

That's the reason I like it. Brings back memories. Sad to say, that kind of thing is probably working against it now.

Yes, that's why I like it, too. I've just heard some people complain about that style. I'm he opposite - educational TV is of of the few things I can watch for hours.

That's why it's good. I feel like I learn something.

Oh, I like it too. I just notice some people not being fond of the style.

I liked the first episode, but the show conflicted with another show I liked better, so I didn't watch Cosmos beyond that. Maybe once it's out on dvd or however they sell videos nowadays, I'll watch it.

Eh, I know a few people who agree with you. Some even use it to put themselves to sleep.

Been meaning to watch that.

I need to just make a master list of things I want to watch/read/play/listen to...I always forget

I have way too many lists like that. I have a bit of a problem when it comes to making lists. I swear it's compulsive. I once caught myself beginning to make a categorized list of all the lists I have saved on my computer.

I love lists. A lot. *list-fistbump*

For books, at least, you could try using goodreads? They have a set up where if you see a book you are interested in, you can click the little button thing, and it will be added to your "want to read" shelf. Plus, if you have a smart phone, you can get the goodreads app, and a bar code scanner, and if you're in public and see a book you're interested in, you can scan it into your goodreads shelf.

(You can also add it manually to the phone version, I just like the scanny thing. :D)

I could do that! Maybe I'll look into it. But I'd kind of rather keep my list of all media all together if I end up doing it.

Yeah, I don't know anything like that, sorry. :(

oh, don't worry, I wouldn't use separate program for it or anything. I'd just write it all down on a Google doc or something

(Anonymous) 2014-05-30 01:18 am (UTC)(link)
Sorry I can't agree, I really like the way it's done. I get immersed.

But they do keep the science explanations really basic.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-30 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
I had the same experience and I eventually decided that I'm just the wrong audience for it. I find the 'entertaining' aspect to be too cloying and the science too basic. But then, I'm already a scientist and I can't really hate on something that might make some random 10 year old love science. So... I find it boring, but I hope it finds success, I guess.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-30 02:47 am (UTC)(link)
It's OK, OP. Not everybody is used to thinking.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-30 06:29 am (UTC)(link)
Because the only reason anybody ever doesn't like that particular TV show is because they're not used to thinking.
otakugal15: (fucks)

[personal profile] otakugal15 2014-05-30 09:40 pm (UTC)(link)
To be honest, I agree. Ignore that anon.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-30 04:54 am (UTC)(link)
I got bored, too. It seems to be aimed at kids, which is fine, but not my cup of tea. The science is pretty simple (and I say that as a history major who took a total of three science courses in college) and not even as complex as what I've seen on Nova specials. Also, the human interest stories about the scientists took up way too much time. It's like what they've done with the Olympics and the backstories of all the athletes. Some people like that kind of thing, but I don't particularly find it interesting.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-30 01:00 pm (UTC)(link)
My brain is completely incapable of paying attention to Cosmos on Sunday nights at 9pm, so I dvr it and watch it in the morning on my day off. 1000x better that way.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-31 08:48 am (UTC)(link)
It's probably because you're stupid.
