So apparently they're doing something of a trilogy as a reboot of the original Stargate movie, because 'we love the universe and want to do more'...hey kids there was already more, an entire tv series. 3 series, in fact, although we don't like to talk about the third. Are they not going to mention any of that? 0.o

Yes and actually one those series spawned a movie.

However, this is another way for them to get money from that cash cow and by making it a reboot they don't have to worry about the various plots/trying to get the actors back. Or, judging by some other reboots, even staying particularly true to characterization or theme.

Omg, this won't end well. Why reboot, why not a SGA movie?

My money is on a combination of time, and the fact that the series didn't have as much interest as SG1 did in the US which, for whatever [stupid] reason, is part of how they decide these things from what I've heard.

SGA was quite popular. I think you're right about SG-1 being even more so. It had a longer run and there was a movie after all. So many reboots lately, it's almost boring.

It was, but I think it was one of those that achieved some popularity here but was way more popular overseas.

I wouldn't mind the reboots so much if they were given to people who obviously loved the source material instead of agreeing to do it...even when they disliked it or, at least before they liked it. [...No, I'm not still mad at JJ Abrams for doing that. Nope, not at all.]

I didn't know about geographical difference in popularity.

I completely and totally agree on JJ Abrams. I loved Kahn so I couldn't hate the movie but the things Abrams's said and some plot turns and other aspects take from the movie.

I have so many misgivings about a SGA movie because I love the series but it went so downhill, not to mention that I'm a butthurt McShep fan, so yanno.

I haven't watched the last season or two, but I'll get to it someday. I loved Elizabeth and McShep, so I know where you're coming from. But any SGA movie is better than no movie. Maybe it'd even be good. I liked Star Trek movie with whales, they could make something similar with SGA.

Maybe. I'm just being a baby about it. That would be totally fun. :)
Especially if they found a way to bring Elizabeth back.

Well I'm just glad we got the shows out of the first one, so I'm not too upset by this, as long as they don't say that the shows are non-canon somehow.

This has been in the works for a while. I'm skeptical about it actually happening since it has been planned for quite a few years and nothing happened. The writers of the original movie aren't actually fans of the tv series, though, and have always planned on going back to do another movie in order to make those shows uncanonical.

That actually makes me pretty sad, since the shows were awesome.

Maybe they'll get a different writing team on this project.

Memory serves, the writer behind the movie didn't like how the series went in a general sense and wanted to do his thing.

...eh. I don't know how to feel about this. I suppose it could turn out entertaining, though if they want to do something else with Stargate I would rather they make another tv show. (...Or would I? I would probably be too afraid to watch it anyway out of fear of cancellation.)

IDK, I guess even if it's terrible we can all just act like it doesn't exist. That always works.

Honestly, I think they need to give it a bit of a rest. The writers were clearly out of ideas at the end of the TV shows.

Or is it a different writing team? Even then... eh.

I'm in support of this. It's different from what they did in the series but it could be really cool. Loved Spader in the original.
