I'm torn here. I sort of hate how tumblr has claimed Cap as bisexual in all the usual annoying tumblr ways.

On the other hand, I think a bi Cap would be really fucking cool.

There is that whole pesky problem of the era they spent most of their time in. 30s wasn't exactly the most gay-friendly decade in US history, and I do imagine that both of the CHARACTERS would be resistant to the admitting feelings even if they existed.

(I ignore Tumblr and look at the evidence as it is presented, though. And that is that Bucky worships the ground Steve walks on, and Steve was willing to let Bucky kill him rather than fight back against him. And my slash goggles have been hard to see through for quite some time.)

Well, there's the problem of acting on it, yes. But not acting on it doesn't magically make you straight in my book, in any case.

And, I could swear I read somewhere that in WWII, there actually instances of young soldiers "seeking comfort" with each other, and it was somewhat known, but tolerated and not mentioned - as they basically thought they were going to die the next day. But I can't for the life of me remember where I read it.

What I mean is: while they wouldn't necessarily have had a bisexual "identity" like now, that doesn't mean they didn't participate in behavior we'd consider bisexual in modern day terms.

Fantastic book. And, yes, the homophobia and overt prejudice experienced by WWII soldiers could be genuinely terrible, but there was also at the same time a surprising amount of tolerance to be found.

Ah, I haven't seen that much of it so I'm not fed up with it. I just think it would be neat if a war hero and symbol of goodness and justice was bisexual. (Especially considering the era he grew up in. Steve is having to adjust to a lot of things, this would be another for sure, but it would be interesting seeing how he would handle it.)

I think part of the coolness of the idea it because he's just such a genuinely good, sweet guy with a big heart and sense of justice - and a role model. Off the top off my head, I can't think of a character like that who is bi in popular fiction.

Exactly. He would be a wonderful role model. He's already a great role model, but having him be bi would add an extra layer of awesomeness because so many people could connect with that. I don't think there's any bi superheroes on the big screen. (Now, Watchmen did have a couple gay characters, but Watchmen wasn't family friendly. Marvel is a bit more safe for all ages.)
