(Anonymous) 2014-05-30 12:40 pm (UTC)(link)I got into the fandom when it was still a relatively tiny book fandom, and I felt like the feeling of the fanbase was that they had trouble even getting other (usually male) fans to acknowledge that there was SOMETHING (lots of feelings or UST) going on between Sansa and Sandor, so I felt the LJ side of fandom was generally at least half-heartedly supportive of Sansa/Sandor in that they recognized it was a Thing GRRM had built up, even though they didn't necessarily like it or care about it. I feel like people who actively disliked or were uncomfortable about SanSan were about 10% of the fandom, although maybe more people just didn't feel the need to voice it back then when they could see the SanSan shippers already struggling to have any traction (SanSan was the juggernaut pairing, but it was a fandom that looked down on romantic shipping as a whole).
Hm... actually, I kind of wonder if that's also part of the feeling of this secret, because it always kind of struck me that B&W might be part of the segment of the fanbase that was like, "Nope, I don't see anything going on between Sansa and Sandor. Oh but this thing Littlefinger has for Sansa is fascinating," which was actually a fairly common mindset in the fandom.
