I mean, I'm well aware that the possibility exists, but somehow I don't feel the treat.

Yeah, same. It's sort of like driving: I could go out onto the road in a cold sweat, flinching at every car that passes me on the road, because I'm fully aware that accidents happen all the time and I've even been in a few, and that any other given car could kill or maim me... ...or I could just do my best to drive well, and trust everyone else to do the same.

I've been fortunate enough never to have been sexually assaulted; the closest I've ever come to it was walking alone at night with a guy I'd thought was my friend to pick up some coke for the party we were going to, when out of fucking nowhere he said "you know, I could do anything I wanted to you right now" and mimed a squeezing motion around my neck while I took at step away.

We were on the sidewalk, and he was on the inside, and I was on the outside. I just thought about it for a second, and put my hand on his shoulder and gave him a little shove before he could react as a huge truck went by: "Yeah, and I could push you into traffic."

We got the coke and went to the party without saying another word. I told the other girls at the party - and all of his other female friends - what a fucking creepy shitass he was and to stay away from him, and was never alone with him again.

...I can't bring myself to be afraid at all times of every man I'm ever alone with because of that though. I just can't.

I like your driving example a lot. And ok, wow. Awesome reaction, I'm totally going to remember that one and put it into action should I get into a similar situation. Don't think it will happen, but you never know.

I do a lot things where others say "oh, I would be too afraid of that" - like backpacking/traveling alone and hitchhiking, for example. And I'm aware of the risks, but not afraid.
