Awww, yea, that one was heartbreaking. And the bit where Danny runs off in the ran, or the pub scene where Nicholas talks about his past. AND THE PEACE LILY. Nicholas coming back armed to the teeth while Danny stands by shocked will always feel weirdly romantic to me.

Oh god yes, me too. I'm having a hard time putting it into words. It's like a weird twist around of the trope where the guy and the girl have made friends anyway but then one evening she gets dressed up and he sees her and gets hearts in his eyes.
Yeah it's like that to me, but with guns.

But also, just the fact that he came back in the first place, you know? Sure there was 'it's an injustice', but I don't think Nicholas could leave Danny there either, knowing what was happening. Also he rode in on a horse like a Disney prince, it was beautiful.

(Anonymous) 2014-05-31 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)It was such a great moment, and kind of powerful in a cheesy way. As you say, he rode in on a white horse (oh man that was good). And the guns strapped to his back were arranged to look like wings. And of course they focus on the number on his uniform '777' as he's loading up in the armory. The whole thing adds up to make this really powerful scene where they play the avenging angel card for all its worth. :D
Yeah, I don't think he could have left Danny either. :) *clutches chest* Tearing up a little right now. Why is this so romantic, goddamnit???

Because Edgar and gang wanted it to be! They deliberately played Nick/Danny's relationship the same way they would have a romance and it shines through.
Did you watch the commentary? They even comment on giving Danny what were supposed to be Nick's girlfriends lines.
