Music to listen to at work

(Anonymous) 2014-06-01 09:15 pm (UTC)(link)
So, we listen to music at work. Generally our boss or someone puts on pandora. Either workout radio or top hits. I can't listen to it anymore. If I have to hear that Work hard, play hard song one more time, I will punch a kitten.

So, I am making playlists for work on Spotify. I have a Classic Rock one and a Disney one. But we cant listen to anything with a lot of cursing and such in case customers come in.

Anyone have any song/artist/playlist suggestions? Heck, even genres I might not have though of? I am using spotify so if you have any lists you know on there, I can just DL them!

Also comedians that are not super vulgar would be great as well!

That was one of my favorites in high school. It's just silly. But, B52's. Kinda...goes without saying.

How do you feel about "Love Shack"?

I recognized it. I think 80s music (or at least this kind) is sort of a blank spot in my musical knowledge.

High school/college in the 80s, though I generally listened to 60s-70s music, then got into New Age and Celtic. I don't recognize all the 80s groups, but I did watch a lot of MTV because videos fascinated me, often a lot more than the music.

I was the only straight girl at a party where everyone was dancing to "Love Shack", so that's how I remember that particular song.

Might as well give you some video game music by way of Shatter's Kinetic Harvest': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UoBLfXPlyPA and Anarchy Reigns 'Fast Lane': https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lrFLSjIA-xY .
And in terms of ride music, Liseberg's and Imascore's 50 minute soundtrack to HELIX: http://www.imascore.com/helix/

The name isn't really great for work, but The New Pornographers is my favorite band and they might be good. I can't think of any time they swear, and if they do it's brief and not memorable.

Big Band?
The Rat Pack?
New Age?
Instrumentals?
Ooo, movie soundtracks?
Personally, I'm a sucker for Celtic music, but it's not for everyone: Enya, Clannad, Brother, Pentangle, Steeleye Span, Fairport Convention, etc.
Bill Cosby isn't too language-colorful, for a comedian, ditto Bill Engvall.

80's electronica or techno. Or just other decades. Art of Noise, Aphex Twin, could throw Squarepusher too.

If you're into metal, I suggest checking out Sabaton. They're a Swedish band, whose main focus is on history. World War II, mostly, but there's a few songs about WWI (Angels Calling, The Price of a Mile, Cliffs of Gallipoli), and a few set in more recent times (Back In Control (Falklands War), Purple Heart (Americans in general), Counterstrike (Six-Day War), Into the Fire (Vietnam)). They've even done a whole album based on the military exploits of two Swedish kings from the 17th and 18th Centuries.

This is what I do every time someone annoys me with their music.

At max volume. It sounds okay at first so no one will tell you to turn it off right away. But, listen...

Dave Brubeck, Genesis and symphonic Led Zepplin all made the cut for my office playist. That translates into 50s jazz, prog rock, and string versions of all other rock genres beinf my recommendations. :-P in all seriouness, symphonic rock with no lyrics is great for work. Some neoclassical could work as well.

How about movie/TV/video game scores? They're pretty much made for background listening already. I would recommend Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman, and Bear McCreary to start with.

Also, ambient/shoegazer and the like. I'm very fond of Port Blue, Ulrich Schnauss, and of course Brian Eno.
