He's a film director. Pretty young, but he won an award in Cannes this year. He mostly focuses on queer/LGBT themes and characters.

Many people love him. Many people think he has an over-inflated ego and that it shows in the way he directs.

As far as I understand it, it's when people don't like someone who stands out achievement-wise or tries to be above others. They begrudge other people's success.

Is he really known outside of Quebec? The only movie of his I've ever heard of is that one where he has a sex scene with François Arnaud, who I think is probably better known internationally after being on the Borgias.

i think he's cute but i don't know much about him in real life. how is he rude? my roommate is in love with this dude. i've only seen heartbeats but i really liked it!

Judging from what I have seen, I wouldn't say he is rude, but mostly that he sometimes comes off as pretentious and hipster-y in interviews and stuff. Though TBH, considering the list of awards he has won and how young he is, I really don't get how people can begrudge him for it? That kind of stuff can easily get to your head. He is still pretty young, and he isn't just an actor who happens to play a character: he writes and direct movies, and he acts too. The amount of work he does is impressive, whether you like his movies or not. He really seems to appreciate it all, at least.

I don't especially like his movies, but I'm happy for him. :)
