ARGH, I just can't get into Eliot. Not only does his poesy not appeal, but he seems like he was a jerk ass in rl.

I honestly don't know that much about him, though from the little bio I read, he did seem kind of pretentious, but we had to (or we were going to have to, only I found out after I had read the poems) read the poems for class, and that bit really got to me.

Like, I feel like he's really good at writing these stanzas with really pretty imagery, but then he turns around, and the next lines/stanzas make no sense, but he could get away with it because he was an ~artist. Still love the imagery, though. |D

Like, these stanza in The Hollow Man:

This is the dead land
This is cactus land
Here the stone images
Are raised, here they receive
The supplication of a dead man's hand
Under the twinkle of a fading star.

Is it like this
In death's other kingdom
Waking alone
At the hour when we are
Trembling with tenderness
Lips that would kiss
Form prayers to broken stone.

But then the same poem has this:

Here we go round the prickly pear
Prickly pear prickly pear
Here we go round the prickly pear
At five o'clock in the morning.

and I don't understand how they connect. |D (Still love the first stanza I posted from this poem though.)
