When I finished the book I was like, WTF? I mean really, what was the point? I assume the author just did that for shock factor. The movie was much more satisfying and not so "OMG LOOK AT HOW POINTLESS EVERYTHING IS!"

Apparently* the author went to a nurse, and asked what would be the most medically accurate ending, and apparently that was for the sick daughter to get the organ transplant, so she killed off the younger sister to facilitate that, because that was what was medically accurate!

...Yeah, no, I'll stick to the movie.

*i.e. I read it on tvtropes, but I don't know if it's legit. or not
