I finished my tasks around the office, and as usual, I asked around for something to do. One of my superiors almost said no as usual, then switched it to maybe. There were some files she needed scanned, and she'd been putting it off because they were oddly shaped and needed to be scanned one by one.

She'd been letting the pile grow without interruption since last June.

I don't mind the work, but I really would have liked to hear about this sooner. It would have been a lot more manageable.

That sucks! I have a similar story. There's a task I'm currently doing for myself and sometimes parts of my team (software development). It gets exponentially more difficult the longer it's left alone, and apparently nobody saw fit to tell me that nothing has been properly done ... like ever.

When I boot up the software, I see all the things I've done for the team, but going back all the way to 2012, people just haven't done it. And now it's a huge mess that's super difficult to trace back.

I kind of want to write a piece of software to get me a result sheet I can use to foist this issue off on other people, but I don't think my bosses will actually pay me for this.
