Pick just one favorite scene from each of your favorite shows

(Anonymous) 2014-06-03 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, you heard right. You have a show you love, may be many, many seasons long? You can pick only ONE scene from it that you feel confident in saying is your favorite. One scene, from one episode, in the whole show.

If you have multiple favorite scenes, pick just one scene out of that list of favorites based on some other reason: it's the best-acted scene, it's the most unique scene, it's a really important or pivotal scene, it resonated with you on the most personal level, it illustrates one of your favorite aspects of the show, whatever.

Being Human (Sy-Fy version) - Aiden drinks Josh I think this scene sums up the show very well. It can be serious one moment to funny to silly and then back to dark at a whiplash speed.

Ooo, I loved that scene.

Buffy The Vampire Slayer - from "Anne," Buffy taking on the slavedrivers of Hell: *sweet smile* "I'm Buffy. The Vampire Slayer. And you are?"

Why? Because it that is basically the thesis and driving force of the entire show, distilled.

Spoilers: Game of Thrones S4E08

[personal profile] ansela_jonla 2014-06-03 12:52 am (UTC)(link)
It's hard to pick just one, and I know it was only aired this week... but the fight between Oberyn and Gregor Clegane was just awesome. Pedro Pascal nailed that scene, that character perfectly. "You raped her. You murdered her. You killed her children."

Gotta say, with that ending, I'm glad that timezones make it impossible for me to watch the new episodes before I go to bed on Sunday night.

The only flaw was the constant jump cuts, but I get the necessity of them, that the scene couldn't possibly have been filmed in one flowing take, and that while Pascal could handle the close work/weapons stuff, they had to use a more skilled/trained/experienced stuntsman for the more acrobatic dodging moves, hence the long shots and character reactions.

I'm never watching that particular episode again. It was brutal and knowing it was coming only made it even worse. Pedro just nailed it and it was just absolutely fantastic. I'm going to miss him. I really hope they get him for this season's commentaries when the show is released on dvd/blu-ray.

As much as I hated the end of episode 8 I have to agree that Pedro's performance during the fight was wonderful, but man I am probably never going to watch it again. I knew it was coming and I still felt like I got kicked in the gut.

I knew what was coming, and at the very end my GF muted the TV and I covered my eyes.

Oh my God, I was getting all of these Inigo Montoya vibes from Oberyn and it was great. But when we got to the end, all of us were feeling a bit ill and one of my friends kept moaning: "Nooooooo! Nooooo!" I'm not sure I could ever watch that episode in its entirety ever again.

The scene where Londo and G'Kar are trapped in a elevator in Babylon 5. Especially the part after Londo wakes up and G'Kar tells him he's been out for two hours and Londo is like "Why didn't you wake me up? Why the fuck haven't you been trying to escape?" And G'Kar is like "So you can can die without me actually killing you" (there are reasons why he wants this and why he can't actually kill him himself) and then Londo is freaked out because G'Kar is willing to die just too make sure he dies and also G'Kar is laughing manically and it's pretty much the best. I really love that whole plot, tbh.

G'Kar and Londo's storyline is one of the best storylines not only in B5 but in all of television. Their story is fantastic, and the actors were amazing.

Friday Night Lights

(Anonymous) 2014-06-03 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
It's difficult to say with absolute certainty, but the one that popped into my head was from Friday Night Lights - the scene in S1 when Coach goes to Matt Saracen's house and Matt ends up in the shower, drenched, fully clothed and weeping, wondering why no one wants him. It was so perfectly done, and so, so heartbreaking.

Crixus killing that Roman for saying, he raped Naevia because he did not know she "held meaning".

It is really satisfying, but I also feel it puts the shows core idea, of how slavery only works through objectifying and dehumanizing people and how fucked up that is.

Starsky & Hutch: the post-death confrontation scene in "Gillian." I literally cannot find words to describe it, except that as far as I'm concerned, this scene should be listed next to the word "friendship" in the dictionary, in case anyone would like a proper definition of this criminally-misused term.

Oh GOD The X-Files... this is so tough. I'm really tempted to choose the scene from Hollywood A.D. where Mulder, Scully and Skinner are each taking a bubble bath and call each other.

However I guess I'll go with a more reasonable option.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hzWtADDeFlU

It's kind of a stereotypical scene; Scully discussing her cancer with Mulder. It's something you see in other shows. However, I feel like this really shows the depth of the relationship between these two, in particular through the acting. Even if you don't want them in a romantic relationship, it shows just how much these two mean to one another. The relationship between Mulder and Scully is the heart of the show (which is why the quality dips so much in seasons 8 and 9), and this scene is the type of thing that shows you just how wonderful and beautiful that relationship is.

There are so many, but these ones came immediately to mind.

Designing Women: The capper of the second season episode ‘Stranded’. If that wig could talk…

Friends: The secret-spilling scene in the second season episode ‘The One with Phoebe’s Husband’. The underwear, the porno, the third nipple.

Coupling: The decorating/home store scene in the second series episode ‘Her Best Friend’s Bottom’. The cushion rant is epic.

Good Neighbor/The Good Life: The drunk conversations in the third series episode ‘The Wind-Break War’.

West Wing: The scene between Toby and Josh about Toby’s father, in the fourth season episode ‘Holy Night.’
“No, you don’t. ‘Cause you don’t know what I know.”
“What?”
“That I would give anything for a living father who was a felon or a sister with a past.”

Stargate Atlantis: The John, Ronon, and Teyla goodbye scene in the third season episode ‘The Return-Part 1’. I just love the part where Ronon attack-hugs Sheppard and swings him around.

When Adama warp/jumped the Galactica into the atmosphere to surprise-launch the Vipers. My favorite "HELL YEAH!" moment from anything. He was such a badass old guy. :D

Doctor Who - The ending scene of Gridlock. David Tennant owns that whole scene.
