As a fellow gay person: he can't outright support gay right. He's on thin ice with what he's done AS IT IS. He is moving as fast as he can without, you know, being dubbed a heretic. It took hundreds of years for them to admit past mistakes, to admit that it's wrong to judge gay people is a huge step in itself with how slow the Catholic church moves.

I agree it's wrong to "judge gay people" obviously. Then again, I think a ton of the shit in the Bible is wrong. I think it's annoying to try to justify the crazy stuff in the Bible and pretend it means something completely different. I wish people would just admit there's stuff there that they disagree with - right up to the pope himself.

I'd also be seriously hesitant, if you are Catholic, to assume this Pope is pro gay rights. His position of "don't judge" is certainly admirable. But that's akin to saying "don't actively be a dick to gay people" - very different from "support gay people and their struggles for equality". I agree that it would be impossible, most likely, for him to say he supports gay marriage. But I'm not presuming that he even would want to say something like that in the first place.
