Re: I feel like my dreams are eating me alive

[personal profile] quirkytizzy 2014-06-03 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
I suffer from chronic nightmares as a result of PTSD and mental illness. They are the only things that can truly make me feel broken. I have found no cure. BUT:

A friend of mine recently said she tries to look at her PTSD as a cranky and ill-mannered roommate. Someone she has to share space with and deal with it's messy dishes and dirty laundry, but it also is a reminder that she's just SHARING space with it. It's not the whole of who she is.

So I'm trying to look at it this way.

One thing that I have found helps me fall asleep afterwards: Sugar. Cookies, sweet cereal, candy, hot chocolate, a glass of lemonade, etc. Something about giving my blood sugar a boost does help me sleep more peacefully after a nightmare.

*HUGS* Really, truly, HUGS.
