Job hunt hilarity

(Anonymous) 2014-06-04 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
As the quest for gainful employment continues, I decided to check the Target corporate listings (which weren't that great a couple months ago but have gotten more enticing). As I was browsing, I found a job title that would amuse everyone's inner 12 year old:

Sr. Engineer-Penetration Tester

It's way beyond my scope of experience, which is probably for the best. I own up to being immature enough to potentially laugh at the job title mid-interview. I wonder if the person selected for that role is the one who kept the straightest face during the entire hiring process.

Anyone else have any funny job hunt-related stories?

Hahaha...what even is that? None of the things I'm imagining can possibly be right.

oh wow, I came across something similar a few months ago. It just said 'penetration tester', I couldn't stop laughing, especially since the job description was kind of vague.

For anyone who's curious: They actually meant an 'ethical hacker' which is the more common and more logical job title.

OP

Yeah, the job description I did eventually bother to look up described it as essentially a security tester for Target's mobile devices. That somehow made it more amusing for me. On top of that, the phrase "oral skills" was included, so my inner 12 year old had a field day. I'm hoping to go into IT training once I have a job. While I can do some independent learning, I'm terrible at staying motivated to learn if I don't have at least some classroom time. The point is, this could be within my skill set someday. For now, it's a good way to keep myself amused during a rough time.
