I do typically type out the names of the characters, but if you're reblogging something on tumblr then including the actual /between names isn't going to be searchable. (Er, in your own blog, anyway.) A smushname makes things a little easier. (And some of them are sort of fun, though I do agree that the majority are just terrible. Not awfully fond of spirk for example, but I use it anyway. I absolutely loathe the pairing name 'stucky', so I've been using 'cap and buck' because while 'starbucks' and 'buckrogers' are adorable, I don't want my Steve/Bucky stuff showing up in those tags. Must be annoying when you're looking for those things then see a completely unrelated pairing in the tags.)

Another reason to dislike tumblr, ha.

(Spirk is the worst. Still can't believe they left the chance to snag Kock pass them by. Honestly, what was the internet thinking that day?)

It has its downsides, I won't argue with that. (I've been tagging all my xmen stuff 'x-men' since I started using tumblr, and only just realized that those posts aren't searchable either. So annoying.)

And I've seen that opinion a lot in the spirk tags, lol. Kock is hilarious but I suppose it wasn't meant to be.)

Stucky is such a horrid name-smush but then I don't think you can smush their names in any way that's pleasing(Buckgers? Rogarnes? Buckeve? None of these are good), it's why I just stick with stevebucky when I tag things for that ship. Starbucks and Buckrogers are pretty adorable oh and I'm also fond of Barnes and Noble, but again I don't really want to put Steve/Bucky stuff in a tag that they don't really belong to.

Also as your icon has reminded me I loathe cherik as a name-smush as well, it just does not sound good.

Haha, yea, I think it's impossible to mix their names in any sort of pleasing way. The best smushnames are usually a bit wacky, like "Star Spangled Banner" or "Angry birds" (making-excuses came up with that one, I think!). Stevebucky is an acceptable alternative, imo. Much better than Stucky.

Mmm, yes, I like both Starbucks, Buckrogers and Barnes and Noble but like you I don't want to fill those tags with things that don't really belong there. I wouldn't be pleased with having a tag full of shipping for something like Starbucks if I was obsessed with the coffee.

100% agreed on cherik. Again, I use it because it's well known and I figure it's easier that way, but that name is terrible. Wish the names for those two were as good as the names for James and Michael.

I'm forever jealous over how cute the ship names for McAvoy and Fassbender are.

He totally gets it. (If you haven't seen this interview, you should. This is the interview where Graham Norton shows them Charles/Erik fanart then has Hugh Jackman read Michael/James summaries to them, and while I'm usually terrified and extremely embarrassed watching those types of interviews, they're such good sports about it. The reactions are delightful.)

Even if "alice/bob" doesn't work, "alice x bob" does. I get what you're saying; that's just how tumblr works, but yeah.

It's like EVERY SINGLE FUCKING PAIRING, the second it shows up on screen, regardless of whether it's canon or not, plausible or not, fandom is like "OH GOD. WE'VE GOT TO MAKE A NAME SMUSH. WE'VE GOT TO COME TO A CONSENSUS ON A NAMESMUSH. OTHERWISE HOW WILL OUR SHIP BE SEARCHABLE?"

That is very true, but I don't like the look of 'x' in the middle either. (Maybe because I used it all the time when younger, and so it reminds me of my younger self and shipping habits and I get embarrassed.)

I think people DO go overboard (especially when ships have like...four different names) but at the same time I don't hate all of them and will usually use the most popular name for convenience.

Yeah, 'x' has never bothered me. Go figure. It's what I'll search for first when I find a new ship. Usually I'll find the popular namesmush in the tag lists of whatever posts come up.

I don't often see multiple names at once, at least not after the ship's finally been established. It's always like some initial Battle Royale/Hunger Games death match. (There can only be one!)

Honestly, I just go with whatever is used the most. Zelda x Link or Link x Zelda or ZeldaxLink or LinkxZelda or whatever are not used very often. Zelink is. If I want people to see my stuff, I tag it as Zelink. If I want to find stuff, I search for Zelink. Just going with the majority!

I don't know, I find them kind of fun.
