(Anonymous) 2014-06-04 12:53 am (UTC)(link)(Spirk is the worst. Still can't believe they left the chance to snag Kock pass them by. Honestly, what was the internet thinking that day?)
Re: No fun allowed!
And I've seen that opinion a lot in the spirk tags, lol. Kock is hilarious but I suppose it wasn't meant to be.)
Re: No fun allowed!
Also as your icon has reminded me I loathe cherik as a name-smush as well, it just does not sound good.
Re: No fun allowed!
Mmm, yes, I like both Starbucks, Buckrogers and Barnes and Noble but like you I don't want to fill those tags with things that don't really belong there. I wouldn't be pleased with having a tag full of shipping for something like Starbucks if I was obsessed with the coffee.
100% agreed on cherik. Again, I use it because it's well known and I figure it's easier that way, but that name is terrible. Wish the names for those two were as good as the names for James and Michael.

Re: No fun allowed!
It's like EVERY SINGLE FUCKING PAIRING, the second it shows up on screen, regardless of whether it's canon or not, plausible or not, fandom is like "OH GOD. WE'VE GOT TO MAKE A NAME SMUSH. WE'VE GOT TO COME TO A CONSENSUS ON A NAMESMUSH. OTHERWISE HOW WILL OUR SHIP BE SEARCHABLE?"
Re: No fun allowed!
I think people DO go overboard (especially when ships have like...four different names) but at the same time I don't hate all of them and will usually use the most popular name for convenience.
Re: No fun allowed!
I don't often see multiple names at once, at least not after the ship's finally been established. It's always like some initial Battle Royale/Hunger Games death match. (There can only be one!)
Re: No fun allowed!
I don't know, I find them kind of fun.
