It doesn't make you a sociopath, but it sure makes you someone who condones awful behavior.

So I'm condoning their behavior now? How? Because I'm not calling them out every time they post? Because I'm not talking sides and rushing to judgement?

If somebody comes up to you and says "yeah, I will dick you over at the first opportunity and not feel bad about it," would you go "okay, I'm gonna be impartial and not take sides on this matter?"

If they said it to my face in real life, it would be different. Seeing as how they said it on this comm, admitted above that they posted it partly to get a rise out of people, and the fact I don't know them personally then yeah, I'm a bit hesitant to get out the pitchforks so to speak.

What should I do then? Harass them every time they post on this comm?

No, but if the whole idea is to be impartial, why swoop in and start supporting them? If you're not gonna take sides, then don't take sides.

I've not supported them though? I just said I found it a bit amusing and their choice of icon particularly amusing because of my prior thoughts about that little speech up above. How is that supporting them?

Maybe we just have different ideas of what supporting looks like. I will concede that.

I'm calming down now, so I'm sorry for coming at you. But she upsets me, greatly, because I've known people like her, and they do real and lasting harm. It doesn't make it any better that she claims she was just trying to get a rise out of everyone. If anything, that makes it even worse, especially since, at the same time, she's talking about not wanting to hurt "innocent bystanders." If you really don't want to hurt innocent people, and you think people should be sensitive enough to not make armchair diagnoses, then why would you go around trolling in a hurtful manner?

You can take that all with a grain of salt, of course. I'm just explaining why I got so bent out of shape.

Because your responses (I'm going to lump you in with every anon who's responded similarly because I literally have no way of telling you folks apart) are really, really, really funny. Seriously, my friends and I have been sitting in the cafeteria for over two hours laughing at the things that have entered my inbox.

And all trolling hurts somebody. I love making up Doctor Who episodes to make Classic and Nu!Who fans flame each other because it's hilarious to watch people's fandom lives crumble before they realize how they're acting. But internet trolling is different than using words that could affect somebody's real life (ie, falsely diagnosing somebody on the internet could lead to someone thinking they have that diagnosis in real life).

(I'm still pretty ruthless, don't get me wrong. If I don't like you, the moment I get a chance, and I will, I will end you without hesitation. It's just that the most harm I will do to you if I don't dislike you is not intervene when you're already being harmed by someone who is not me.)

But you do and have done things that can affect someone's real life. You're making a useless distinction between things that are ultimately the same. The difference is that you seem to get a kick out of people getting hurt, even while you talk about how you don't want to trigger anyone.

You're a shitty human people. You know it. You admit it. All the "oh but actually" crap just makes you look wishy-washy on top of it.

No, you're wishy-washy because you make pointless distinctions between triggering things. One thing is okay to do while another isn't. You care about not triggering people until you don't.

Are you asking me why I don't see a bunch of nameless, faceless people as "people?" Or are you asking me what I consider the difference between making someone uncomfortable and triggering someone?

I can understand where you're coming from so there's no need to apologize. I was just a little bit frustrated being accused of automatically condoning their behavior and being called a sociopath.
