Most of the people I know who watch horror movies aren't scared of them, and don't watch the occasional movie they are scared of. They're just entertained.

That is... definitely not representative of the majority of horror fans. I mean, given that most horror movies are, aside from their potential scariness, considered rather low in artistic quality, what kind of entertainment can be derived from them if not the thrill?
