They're a pretty good couple in the show too. Their relationship actually redeemed both of the characters for me. Before Andy became interested in April, he was just kind of a loser whose obsession with getting back together with Ann came off as pathetic and weird. Before April was interested in Andy, she was just too mean spirited for me. I like sarcastic/sardonic characters but she got really grating after a while. Being with Andy softened her a bit and she's gradually mellowed out somewhat over the seasons. Their goofy relationship is pretty cute

Yeah, in-love-with-Ann!Andy is a side of Andy I like to pretend never happened, though fortunately even then, I think by mid-season two he started acting like a normal person about it.

da

I agree. I mostly try to ignore that plot line (along with the fact that Andy was portrayed as a straight up dick in the show's early episodes before they settled on "lovable goofball"). Actually, I try to ignore the events/characterization of season 1 and part of season 2 in general. The show had some really wonky stuff going on for a while until it found its footing. I mean, it's great now...but those were some dark times

When they get together, they pretty much steal the show when they're on.

They're wonderful, OP! You totally should watch Parks and Recreation for them (and everyone else is great, too).

They're a really adorable couple. They're the type of couple where really they shouldn't work but that makes them work so well. They really love each other.

Don't be afraid, OP! They are wonderful and perfect and funny and make each other better. They are my favorite couple on a show that is wall-to-wall wonderful relationships. I hope you dare to watch it someday. I don't think you'll be disappointed at all.

They are a great couple!

April and Andy are wonderful.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-06 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
In other words, you're completely in love with the IMAGE this couple presents to you, and not so much the couple itself.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-06 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Which is fine, I think. I know a lot of people who don't watch P&R and dig the whole Human Puppy/Aloof Cat vibe Andy and April put off in images and gifs.

But everyone should watch the show. It is wonderful, and their wonderful relationship is just one facet of that wonderfulness.

tried so haaaaaard and got so faaaaaaaarrrrrr

It sounds like you just have a big old crush on chubby!Chris Pratt, anon. No shame though - he is fucking cute and I hope he goes back to being a chunky teddy bear again after GoTG.

On this Chris Pratt note, you might want to watch some interviews of him talking about his wife Anna Faris (or vice versa) - they seem like an equally cute couple as Andy and April, except, you know, they're real.

No worries, they're awesome

If you only ship them because they look adorable together, you should probably stay away from the source material. I went into Frozen totally in love with how cute Hans and Anna were together in the promotional material and I still haven't stopped sobbing.

It's hit or miss. I went into Elementary because of the Joan Watson gifsets and I really liked her on the show. I watched OUAT because of the Mulan/Aurora gifsets and I could not be more disappointed. So I think it depends.

They're very cute. It seems like it wouldn't work but it really does.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-07 04:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Nthing that April and Andy are just as awesome in the show as they are in stills. It is a show with a lot of awesome couples, but they are THE AWESOMEST. And that's saying something when you have a show with Ben Wyatt and Leslie Knope as a couple.

Tips for watching Parks and Rec: watch episode 1 of Season 1 to get the setup, and then skip right to Season 2. I would normally say to skip to the middle of S2 but if you watch from the beginning you get the slow burn of April and Andy getting together, which is really well done and enjoyable to watch.
