Wouldn't work. Streets are too wide and the US is too suburban/car oriented etc.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-06 12:16 am (UTC)(link)
Would work in some of the older cities. Boston, easily.

I'd say keep your passion and your ideals, but channel it in more productive ways?

Build a barricade like in Les Mis.

puh! we french people built barricades before it was cool

(Anonymous) 2014-06-06 06:32 am (UTC)(link)
And you pronounced 'barricades' the way it was meant to be pronounced!

(Anonymous) 2014-06-05 11:14 pm (UTC)(link)
why? were you going to build it in front of an important government building or social epicenter? Did you have the impression the government was going to attack you? Otherwise that is a hilariously stupid idea.

I have a feeling you'd be alone, but it would be really entertaining to see a lone person on the news with a barricade a few streets away from the white house.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-05 11:22 pm (UTC)(link)
LOL! I have a mental image of one person wheeling out a chair. Then going back and dragging out a couch. Then going back and bringing out some other crap (pots, pans, old comforters). Hard work building a barricade by yourself! I wonder if they'd have enough to block a single city street?

I feel like I'm missing something obvious here... But I'm not clear on how you're so sure USians would have heard about your barricade.

Are you in charge of an important embassy based in the US? Or were you planning to build it across a major road running across a border between the US and either Canada or Mexico?

I'm even less clear on what purpose you think your barricade would have served.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-05 11:29 pm (UTC)(link)
I think they're probably US-based? I mean, I think they're just saying US-based people are the ones who would have heard about it. Not that they (the OP) is not also US-based.

Anytime I see "USians", I read it as Usain (as in Bolt).

They had an idiotic idea is what happened here. It's not a good equivalent thing to build a barricade over.
insanenoodlyguy: (Default)

So congrats I guess

...why? What would that have accomplished?

Are you originally from the US? Is that why you cared?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-06 12:13 am (UTC)(link)
The best barricade to build is the Terry Pratchett sort (don't forget the grannies.)

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2014-06-06 12:20 am (UTC)(link)
Do you...? What? Why? What purpose would it serve? Why would we know about a lone... person doing weird things? I'm... you know... there are better ways to protest.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-06 01:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Probably the whole 'secret service would have arrested and beat his/her ass' before they got very far.

Maybe if you'd built a barricade around the Capitol building, forcing people to stay inside (with no addition food supplies until they ironed out the budget)...
greenvelvetcake: (Default)

[personal profile] greenvelvetcake 2014-06-06 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
But where would you build it? If you built it in the streets, you'd get in the way of thousands of commuters and pedestrians. You wouldn't be inconveniencing anyone but The People. What would even be the point? Barricades are supposed to keep people like soldiers out. This makes no sense. If I was trying to get to work and there was a big barricade in my way with some moron on top, I would climb it and punch said moron.
Edited 2014-06-06 01:10 (UTC)

Building a barricade where, to do what?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-06 02:19 am (UTC)(link)
Do you own something that Congress would have been desperate to get into? And if you were aiming to just stop average citizens from getting somewhere, to what end? Do you understand what barricades are for?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-06 04:38 am (UTC)(link)
The US Government is a fandom?????
If I want to "slash" two of the presidents is the FBI gonna come knocking at my door?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-06 05:29 am (UTC)(link)
Let's ask the people who've written Obama/Biden slash, provided they're not currently in jail.
