How does f!s compare to the other sites you visit?

I can be anon here, so I can vent about things I'd never feel comfortable discussing under any username. Therefore, it's among the best.

About the same. Some jerks, some awesome people, and everything in between.

Better than the pony forum, not as good as my tumblr dash or my toy forum, tied with ontd and reddit, neck and neck with neopets.

more active

and no automatic suspicion of me because I prefer to be anon. I like that.

I'm old and miss the early days of the internet when anonymity was presumed and more accepted (or at least it felt that way).

More active. More regular assholes that are tolerated. More fresh stuff to talk about.

Less hugbox-y and less elitism.

Most of the time it's actually pretty nice, it's not constantly overoffended like Tumblr, and I can talk with writers here.

I like it.

It's much nicer, more pleasant, significantly less critical. And people can be super into things without getting toxic about it mostly. It's good.

Easier to have a conversation. Many of the other sites I visit have either circle-jerk or immediate and absolute hostility as their only two modes.

That and Case is a better mod than most.

It's something I keep going back to. Really the only other thing where I comment a lot is Reddit and that's pretty different.

More entertaining and less pearl-clutchy than Etiquette Hell.
cloud_riven: Cute cigarrette box and coffee cup, with smiley faces, holding hands! Adorable! (bff)

[personal profile] cloud_riven 2014-06-06 11:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It's less interest-focused obviously, so that means it's easier to have cross-fandom and regular conversation here. Not that there's no existence of a common ground, or popular topics, but we're less hivemindy I find, and I appreciate that. Sure, someone can take a difference of opinion personally, but we're mostly friendly overall.

Fandom nublet? No big. Secretly a bnf? Here you're just as worthless as the rest of us—I mean beautiful.

It's not facebook where I have to keep in touch with the 392040324 relatives I didn't know I had. And it's definitely better for discussion than tumblr.

Definitely more active (ie not dead) than all my old LJ comms. More community than tumblr. More user-driven in terms of content (both secrets and general comments) than the news blogs I frequent.

In Goldilocks terms, just right.

More circle-jerky.

I can easily carry on a conversation here (and usually find someone who shares my interests), so to me that makes it better than most other places I frequent.

Less immediate family members.

...Really I pretty much just go to DW and FB these days. And FB is really only something I do because it's necessary for cosplay networking. (And while I am not one of those cosplayers who desires popularity via "likes" - I don't even have a cosplay page - it's just the place cosplayers go nowadays for finding people who like to cosplay the same stuff so you can form groups and plan meetups.) Unfortunately as soon as I joined, my entire extended family descended upon me...

Pretty great; I like the community and that I know people here. The two sites that might possibly outshine it on a community basis is the AV Club and The Mary Sue, though a lot of the Jpop sites I like I definitely visit more...

So pretty good, all around, I guess!

About the same as everywhere else, it's pretty much the only place I have for discussion so it's good for that, but as with anywhere it has good days and bad days.

I've been coming here for years so... I'd say it's pretty cool.

Pretty good. Tumblr still comes out on top (got friends there, so the sense of community - for myself - is better, got my actual fandoms there), but F!S is probably second - mostly for GC than the actual secrets, actually, at times.

Trollish? I'm not really fond of this place, but for some reason, when shitty things happen in my life I end up looking here because of all the crazy ideas from the same six people posting over and over again, and venting or just reading about it somehow makes me feel a little better. Bad feels heals bad feels? Something like that. :p
