OBVIOUSLY NOT ARIAKAS but posting nonetheless -

There are cyberpunk movies. Blade Runner is the most well-known one (for very good reasons, it is kickass, and actually came out before Neuromancer was published IIRC). There's also stuff like Johnny Mnemonic which is unquestionably cyberpunk and really entertaining, and a lot of dystopian SF movies that could be classed as cyberpunk if you wanted to but that aren't explicitly cyberpunk like Brazil for example, and then a crapload of anime that's cyberpunk, most notably Ghost In The Shell.

Man Johnny Mnemonic is so fun. "WHAT CAUSES IT? THIS CAUSES IT! THIS CAUSES IT! THIS CAUSES IT! INFORMATION OVERLOAD! TECHNOLOGICAL FUCKING CIVILIZATION!"

Huh. I guess I never think of movies like that as cyberpunk. I have seen Blade Runner and Ghost in the Shell but never connected to them as cyberpunk. It may be because I don't know the difference between Steampunk and Cyberpunk but I recognize Steampunk fairly easily.

I guess you could say cyberpunk is what the 80s imagined the future would be like, whereas steampunk is what people from the 80s and onwards imagined that people from the 1890s would have imagined the future as. Cyberpunk is much more computers and megacorporations and huge depressing megacities and neo-noir, steampunk is all mad science and gears and machinery, I guess.

They're actually both kind of hard to define because they're both really visually oriented genres. But basically, if it has computers and digital stuff, it's probably cyberpunk; if it has gears and analog stuff and is from the Victorian era, it's probably steampunk.

Would Mirror's Edge (the game) be considered cyberpunk? I guess it is probably not into the future enough.

I never played it so I can't say for sure but from looking it over, it at least has a lot of elements in common with cyberpunk.

I'd probably say it was definitely cyberpunk if the color palette was darker.
