Godfrey family, not Rumancek! Gah!

yeah, it'd be catastrophic. really though, i think the way they throw around what many people consider to be a slur without ever addressing it is a little... worrisome. i don't know much about rroma culture and i feel like the writers don't either.

i agree though on the one point, i think it's made fairly obvious that the godfreys are supposed to be shitheads. my favorite characters are often horrible people, though, so i begrudgingly really like roman. ugh but he's so awful. SO AWFUL.

From what I can tell, there are as many Roma that are ok with being called gypsies as there are that find the term insulting (granted, I've only met two - both were chill with the term, but they were from the same family, the rest of what I know was from asking them and, later, looking on the internet). So it's only a slur some of the time. Much like "Jew", it can be used as an insult - and much in the same way - but is also equally neutral and descriptive.

To be fair, Roman had spent his entire life with a mother who, for all intents and purposes, seemed to want an incestuous relationship with him and manipulated him at every turn for her own purposes. Not saying he's anything NEAR a good person, but some of his behavior is just due to the fact that he has no idea what "normal" is.

ah, see i didn't know that. i assumed that it was regarded as a slur within the culture but basically all of what i know is from the internet, so.

and i definitely agree about that--one of the things i think the show actually does really well is showing why he is the way he is. that's why i like him as a character! but he's still a total asshole.
