Welcome to my life. Or perhaps it's that nothing since then has been so good. Either way. I'm 28. Since we both feel like this I'd say it's that nothing hasn't been good after that time. Totally.

Oh, for goodness' sake. Two of you does not make it reality. It makes it two of you. Sad, maybe. Noting more significant.

Anon definitely wasn't serious.

Hey, whatever gives you a little bit of happiness.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-07 08:30 pm (UTC)(link)
1. That sucks.
2. If you're in a position where it's possible, maybe ask a doctor about depression? Even if a shitload of stuff in your life is going wrong, you shouldn't never be happy.

What kind of kids' media, which movies? Sometimes I like children's books, like Lindgren, because they have simplicity and optimism. Do you enjoy grown up media now? Many adult fantasy books are simillar to children's when they don't have violence and romance. Or do you mean media about kids and childhood?

All TV shows, books and games are escapism. Maybe the problem is that now it all reminds you that you were happier before, making you unsutisfied with your current state? Perhaps this unpleasant association will fade with time. You say that it's normal to enjoy kids' media, so it's not a problem of self image and being cool. Maybe you'll find some other things you enjoy? Consuming media/stories is not the only hobby. You can lurn a new langu., draw, walk, forums, craft, etc.

I dislike nostalgia and thinking about good old time because it seems to devaluate my current expierence. I start thinking shouldn't I go back to that way of living? But I'm a different person now, the memory is kind and it's imposible to do something for the first time twice. Maybe it's a bit weird, idk.

I do like adult media, but I get your feelings. I was happiest in life pre-puberty, and partly that's why I never really want to grow up.

No wonder you sound so miserable.

Hm, not sure how to respond. I guess I am , but it's sort of a disconnect to see myself that way. Also, I've been a lot worse, so it's like I feel I need to be grateful for small favours. I try not to dump it on people full force, but I guess it leaks through at some times.

I take offense to the implication that being an escapist makes you a piece of shit. :/ I embrace my escapism. It makes my life happier, and goddamn if I'm ever going to let anyone tell me I'm wrong for it. It's what fiction is for. I don't understand how anyone gets by in life without it.

Children's media is often happier, without the dark edges and sad endings. Some people need more of that in life. Heck, I bet we all do, but some people won't or can't enjoy children's programming. Not shitty to want escapism, OP. :-)

You're not alone. It's because, for me, anyway, this world is materialistic, aspiritual, dark, cruel and small...I didn't know that ten years ago. What we learn as we grow destroys us.
