well, i've seen that '70s show, and if it's accurate... ew. the past was weird, man.

Google "70's glam rock fashion". Then watch your mind melt. That jacket is super tame compared to what passed back then.

No no no, they toned the 70s down a LOT for that show. For example, you notice how some things on the show were colors other than avocado green, shit brown, or safety orange? In the real 70s, those were your options.

Robin's egg blue.

I've watched Starsky and Hutch... those clothes man. YOU LIKE THIS COLOR? HAVE A WHOLE PANTSUIT, SHIRT AND SHOES IN IT. COORDINATING COLORS? WHAT ARE THOSE?

WHAT DO YOU MEAN OLIVE GREEN DOESN'T GO WITH BRIGHT BLUE? WHY WOULD I NOT WEAR ADIDAS SNEAKERS WITH DRESS SLACKS? HAIRCUTS? WE DON'T NEED NO STEENKIN' HAIRCUTS!

Man, how do I love those guys, let me count the ways. They never, ever looked boring. And that's not getting into the stuff the one-off characters got up to. Maybe I should start a Fashion It So type blog for it. At least Starsky had the sense to stick to that badass leather jacket most of the time ;)

And now that I think about it, I'm pretty sure Hutch had a jacket that looked almost exactly like Quicksilver's.

I've seen some real fashion gong shows from movies in the early to mid 80s as well. Even the hairstyles are sometimes very absurd-looking. :P

i would read the shit out of that blog. i have all five season of S&H on DVD... if i had time i think making that blog would be so so fun.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-07 11:40 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, there are only four seasons (unless you count the pilot TV movie as a season unto itself?) But I would seriously consider it if not for the fact that I completely lack all conscious fashion knowledge. Like, I can never figure out *why* anything looks bad/good/cool/weird. But I think I'll ask around to see if anyone else is up to it. ;)

oh, gosh. i'm so used to the things i watch having five seasons. ha, yeah. I have FOUR seasons on DVD. i don't really have fashion knowledge either... unless watching project runway counts.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-07 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
That's more knowledge than I have. Before I watched S&H, I seriously could not have told anyone anything about '70s fashions more detailed than "bell-bottoms" and "sideburns."
