(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 01:15 pm (UTC)(link)Starting with the fics seems counterintuitive to me because fanfiction is so closely dependent on the source it draws from; reading a fic without even rudimentary knowledge of canon makes the story feel incomplete.
It's definitely a different experience than reading fic in a fandom you're familiar with, but that can be part of the fun. For me, it feels a bit like reading a mystery novel: you have to piece together the characters' interrelationships and backstories and motivations as you read.
