I think you might be overreacting.

Tbh... yes. I mean, I know how it works, I'm paranoid, too, but this situation says bugger all about whether you should trust people.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 07:57 pm (UTC)(link)
How vague? Was it vague but still specific to the situation itself? Because yeah, that's a bit of a problem, even if she meant well.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 08:02 pm (UTC)(link)
that should teach you not to trust anyone on the internet.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 08:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Flist? Like on LJ? ...was this send to case in 2007 and he just now got around to posting it?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
LJ still exists, actually...

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 08:41 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't pretend like it's not on life support.

Do people not say "flist" on DW?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 09:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Says someone posting on Dreamwidth...

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
Alive and kicking in my fandom, matey. How about *you* stop pretending that it's "really" dead or nearly?

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 11:09 pm (UTC)(link)
Sweetie, just because you don't use it anymore doesn't mean it's dead. Not everyone like Tumblr. Now pull your head out your cunt and stop pretending that you and your friends are all of fandom.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 11:52 pm (UTC)(link)
nayrt but can you stop with the pet names? It's extremely condescending and obnoxious.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-09 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
*That* was your problem with their comment?

+100

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
Lots of people still use LJ. Most of my online friends use it primarily.

Omg, fandom drama ahoy! What goes in PM should stay in PM. Just wait till you have some common secret, aka a dirty staff on the other person too, then you will know that you can trust them.

PS: OP, burn their letters and scratch their name from your Christmas list.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
It was probably bothering her a lot. I think it was good of her to remain vague.

Does anyone else feel like this only missed the failbar by a fingernail? It has nothing to do with fandom other than the fact that the people involved met each other via fandom

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
It sounds to me like OP is worried about their fandom reputation.

Sounds like the were, but maybe not so much now? I didn't get the sense that that was the main point of the secret. But meh.

Don't trust anyone with anything that's important enough to throw you into a panic if it were to get out. That's just common sense.

This.

A lot of people won't really think of consequences when said consequences aren't about them. Though at least in your case they seemed to keep it vague enough without giving names.

I learned that a lot of people also don't make the difference between what you tell them in confidence that they should kept to themselves, and stuff you don't mind sharing with, say, the rest of the world, unless you say it clearly.

Sad as it is, just assume that everything you say to someone may be repeated to someone else, not out of malice just because it's your secrets, not theirs, so they don't care.

(Anonymous) 2014-06-08 11:48 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, at least they kept it vague though. Someone once ranted about a situation that happened between me and two other people (and she of course made the story look the best from her side even though she was wrong about some things) but thankfully she didn't mention names. So really, even though I was worrying that everyone would know about all this bullshit that went down and that I was going to lose friends left and right, I found that no one really cared.

Don't worry too much about it. Some things are best kept to yourself.
