I think that the Fourth Wave will (by necessity) embrace more male participation. Third Wave has been all about inclusion of previously excluded parties, but so far all they've added are non-white and poor women, and (the right) LGBT parties. This does fuck all to help poor and non-white men, who (as we should realize given the Third Wave's emphasis on intersectionality) often end up at the bottom of the scrap heap. But so far the Third Wave has more or less told them to go fuck themselves.

And so you have tumblr: middle-class white women imagining themselves more victimized by a system that enacts just as much - or far more, in many cases - violence on poor and black men. Which is bad enough in and of itself, but these potential allies are being actively excluded, just like the Second Wave actively excluded non-white, poor, and transgendered women.

I hope you are right about Fourth Wave. That would be lovely.

Excuse me? Did you really just say you want feminism to be more about men?

You read "embrace more male participation" and got "be more about men", huh.

Are we about to get a practical example of everything wrong with the Third Wave, anon. That would just be delightful.

Sexism actually does affect men, too. And if men come to realize this, then perhaps we can work together in dismantling the sexist power structures that hurt so many people.

The focus of feminism is women's rights, absolutely, but we should also be aware of how it affects men and other groups. There are intersections with racism, classism and a whole bunch of other things. You can't just work on one little corner of the pyramid, you've gotta kick down all the cards.

If you want to have the whole population on board, that would by necessity eventually include members from that 47% of the population that was born with xy chromozones.

What tumblr have you been on? The tumblr I know hates middle-class white women more than everything except rich and middle-class white men.
