this comment made me laugh because hopper is the first artist that comes to my mind when i think 'artist that makes you look pretentious'.

i'd say he's relatively famous for an artist, but most people only know a handful of names (van gogh, dali, picasso, maybe one or two impressionists). it's pretty hilarious, the fact that being a fan of one of the most famous artists of all time is still considered as pretentious as liking 18th century oboe concertos or something equally ridiculous.

(of course, i could be saying that just to bruise your ego)
