Re: Movies/books/shows you're supposed to like but don't?

I never really get the "nothing happens!" complaint. I can read/watch dialogue for hours. I don't really need anything to happen. Actually I get bored by action more than anything. Explosions? Meh. Not that that's the only alternative. That's just where my mind went just now.

I can also put up with dialogue if it's in the service of a plot I'm actually interested in--one of my favorite plays is actually Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead, in which two guys sit around talking philosophy while Hamlet goes on around them. I guess I'm just completely and fundamentally uninterested in the plots the Big Lady Writers of the 19th century seemed to be writing. I could not give less of a shit who gets with Lord Bingley or Heathcliffe or whoever, and apparently this is sacrilege among my friends and peer group.

That's fair. I love Austen and the Brontes but I've got my own form of blasphemy going on there since Pride and Prejudice is my least favorite Austen book and Anne is my favorite Bronte.

Emma is my favourite Jane Austen book. I mean, I love Pride and Prejudice, but Emma will always be my favourite, because Emma (the character) was annoying and a brat and obnoxious and REAL. She was imperfect and caused problems and stuck her nose in where it didn't belong and she LEARNED from it.

*hugs her 1901 copy of Emma bought from JA's house*
