I'm going to disagree I'd rather have people not have any idea about me and have to inform them myself, rather than people making false and offensive assumptions about me.

Exactly. I think it's far more dangerous and aggravating for people to represent me badly and create/encourage hurtful, untruthful stereotypes, ideas, etc. than for them to be ignorant and I get to tell them the truth straight away. It's much harder to change people's minds when they've been exposed repeatedly to the harmful/incorrect images and ideas than if they have no experience whatsoever.
