Re: Have you tried/are you vegetarian/vegan?

I had to google factory farming. Here that's done with chickens and pigs in some places, but now with cattle. By the way, what's the term for non-confined farming? ESL here.

"Free range" is a label for animals not kept in tiny boxes. In theory, let to freely roam around fields, though I heard the legal requirements for labeling something "Free range" are not that strict, so the animal still could be held in bad conditions... :(

Ah yes, thank you. Here it's actual free range for cattle. They are not confined. It seems in some countries they can get a free range label if the animals get outside access at some point. Is that what you mean?

In America, there are both. I'm in the Midwest so I frequently see cattle roaming around pastures freely. But factory farms exist also.

I don't know much about the label, but I heard, for example, that a chicken can be called free range if its cafe is like three square feet or something else ridiculously small. I don't know how true that is, since I don't shop free range (because I'm vegetarian) but yeah, rumor has it the title is not that strict and while it's better than factory farming, it's not better by much.
