Re: Stuff people like that you automatically judge them for

Makeup. Not, like, a little bit if it's expected at work, or to dress up for very very special occasions. That I get, but people who never get up in the morning without plastering their face with the shit or have heaps of it that they've used once or never, or have whole fandoms devoted to it, complete with fandom wars... *Shudders*

(I do think Family Guy is funny sometimes though, so judge away!)

Make-up fandoms, what. Oo

I'm one of the people who wears a lot of makeup (in terms of foundation) because of my skin problems and I literally can't go out make-up-less without getting disgusted looks. But I learned through necessity how to apply it correctly and I wish other people would do the same, for their own sake. Just a small thing like the right coloured foundation can do a lot of good. So I agree, to a degree. And yes, the make-up fandom is a strange, creepy place.

Now that's a practical, legitimate reason to wear makeup, and I wouldn't fault anyone for it (or to cover, say, a large port-wine stain or something like that.) I don't have an issue with actors using it either. If it's literally your job to look good, makeup is a necessity. And of course there are moments when everyone feels it's important to look their best.

It's the colossal waste among people who don't actually need to wear it constantly, or who buy and/or use far more than they do need, that gets to me: time, money, packaging, plastic containers, ingredients (some harmless, some toxic, some environmentally costly,) all for the dubious purpose of looking pretty, which backfires as often as it succeeds. And for generating profit for cosmetic companies, which it accomplishes very well.

There are other hobbies and habits that can also be frivolous and wasteful, obviously, but for whatever reason this particular one just hits every single button I've got.
