Yeah, I have a Maine coon.

(Technically savannahs aren't "cats", they are small cheetahs - just kidding, I just didn't think of them)

Big dogs are amazing, but the downside is that they generally don't live as long as the smaller breeds and usually have joint issues when they get old.

True. :/ Though it's not always the case. My 75-80 lb mutt is 14.5 years old and no major health issues aside from the occasional arthritis flare up and being mostly deaf.

That's great to hear about your dog, hope he/she stays in fair health as long as possible :)

Our Newfoundland lived to be 13, but the last year of his life sucked -- and what can I say, we were a bit jealous of grandma and her 20 y-o dachshund who may have looked like a zombie, but was still happily sniffing around for two more years with no pain.

I'm sorry to hear that about your dog. It's heartbreaking to see them deteriorate like that. :(
