Soft vore is when the person eaten stays alive.

I can't speak for all vore fans, but I really only like it when it's a person getting eaten by another person.

As I understand it, soft vore is when you're swallowed whole. Hard vore is when you're chewed.

Soft vore = vore where the person being eaten is swallowed whole and there is no blood/guts. Often also where the person stays alive (but not always).

Hard vore = usually has some blood/guts involved, some amount of biting/chewing. Usually more violent and generally implied to result in digestion/death.

And you asked about cannibalism, so. Most of the time when it's a normal-sized person eating parts of another normal-sized person that they've like, previously cut off and prepared or whatever, that falls under cannibalism, not vore, yeah. I've seen some people sometimes CALL it vore, but in my opinion and in my experience from also following lots of other vore fans, vore generally involves a large portion of the person being consumed all in one go/piece. So, hard vore involves the person being bitten/chewed often, but they're usually being bitten/chewed while still alive and "whole," with the other person biting large amounts of them off. (So, let's say, someone getting bitten in half, or having one of their legs bitten off while being swallowed. Being eaten alive. If you're familiar with it, think Attack on Titan.)

And yeah basically I'd say that's another thing both soft and hard vore have in common: it focuses on it happening while the prey is alive. In hard vore they may die in the process, but they're certainly alive while being eaten.

I quite like that as well - but only if the person involved is incredibly, incredibly, almost over-the-top enthusiastic and turned on and into it, and pretty much willingly chooses to be involved, and almost volunteers because of how much it turns them on.
