Father's day shopping help

(Anonymous) 2014-06-10 11:46 pm (UTC)(link)
So, Father's day is coming up and I can't figure out what to get mine. I know I want to do something with fishing gear. But I know very little. He had rods/reels already. He fishes (usually) from the bank of a lake (he walks around it) so freshwater. He uses fake bait. Uhhhh. He fishes for fish found in the Southeast?

Anyone have any suggestions for bait type, or lure type, or something every fisherman needs?

Feel free to use this thread to ask other people to help you figure out what to buy your dad!

Does he have a good hat?

Yes. I think I bought him one a couple of years back

Tack box, gift card, fishing line, book about fish for your region, opportunity to go fish on a boat (you can book those things), new fishing boots. There are a lot of things you could probably replace or invest in.

Gloves? My hands are super sensitive and even the once-in-a-blue-moon fishing I do would kill them if it weren't for my awesome gloves.

Every fisherman can use a good knife. Lures and bait sort of depend on the type of fish (and the preference of the fisher). You could put together a little kit with things like sunscreen, bug spray, simple first aid supplies, wet wipes, chapstick, and the like.

He has a good knife. I got him a new tackle box and am now trying to figure out what kind of lures to get. There are so mnay! I know he fishes for crappies and smallmouth bass.

Does he drink scotch? A bottle of decent scotch is always appropriate.

If by "always appropriate", you mean "if you're buying for someone who enjoys scotch and you know what kind of scotch to buy them", then... yes, you're right. But not everyone drinks, and not everyone who drinks likes scotch.

Tough one. Um... case of his favorite beer to take on his next fishing trip? New cooler? Thermos? Something for him to sit on like a folding chair/cushion? New... those big whatchamacallits, sort of like a bento box in an insulated zip case to take along snacks on his next trip?

Not your only option, but this is what I meant:
